About:

Puget Sound Bird Fest was started in 2005, as a celebration of birds and nature. The first three years the festival was held in May, coinciding with International Migratory Bird Day. In 2008 the festival date was changed to September, to take advantage of the calm winds and balmy late-summer weather and to increase the possibility of encountering migrating shorebirds and other Puget Sound birds. The goals of Puget Sound Bird Fest are to:

• Promote local birding, and conservation of habitat.

• Educate residents on bird-friendly gardening and the Backyard Wildlife Habitat Program.

• Draw more visitors to appreciate Edmonds’ spectacular natural environment, vibrant local businesses, and thriving arts community.

The Puget Sound Bird Fest Steering Committee is composed of the following members of the community and City of Edmonds staff:

Irene Billa - Bird Nursery Volunteer, PAWS

Cindi Cruz - City of Edmonds, Community Services & Economic Development Office

Karin Lehman - Bird Nursery Volunteer, PAWS

Sally Lider - Environmental Education Coordinator, City of Edmonds

Lee Anne Malott - Edmonds Community Member

Mary Monfort - Edmonds Arts Commissioner

Susie Schaefer - Vice President, Pilchuck Audubon Society

Laura Spehar - Edmonds Backyard Wildlife Habitat Project Team Leader
